Local shelter shares what Thanksgiving foods are harmful for your pets

TUCSON (KVOA) - As Thanksgiving Day approaches a local shelter is reminding the community that some food can harmful for our furry friends.

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) says many of the traditional holiday dishes make pets sick, even to the point of causing life-threatening pancreatitis.

Here's a list of foods that are NOT safe for pets:

  • bones and fat trimmings
  • gravy
  • gum
  • candy
  • chocolate
  • alcohol
  • raisins and grapes
  • onions, scallions, garlic, chives
  • raw/undercooked meat and eggs
  • avocado
  • mushrooms
  • citrus
  • coconut and coconut oil
  • nuts
  • milk and dairy
  • yeast dough
  • apple seeds, apricot pits, cherry pits, peach puts
  • salty foods
  • fatty foods
