TUCSON (KVOA) - A local school made quite the impact last Thursday, taking part in growing their own schoolyard garden.

Maldonado Elementary school was recently selected to receive a Learning Garden from the Captain Planet Foundation, which was sponsored by Bashes, Dole and Food City.

Students from all grades were able to get their hands dirty and do their part to bring this garden to life.

According to a news release, the Learning Garden gives students the foundational skills to grow a garden of their own and helps them grow their core educational skills. In addition, the garden will also help teach them nutritional skills aimed trying healthier foods and learning where their food comes from.
