Karah Mayer and Madeline Cheu will be part of the 2021 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

TUCSON (KVOA) - Two local high school seniors are preparing to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.

Karah Mayer and Madeline Cheu are students at Tanque Verde High School and University High School. The two are part of the competitive jump rope team the Tucson Twist-Its.

They'll be joining 110 other jumpers from around the country to perform in New York City and the two told News 4 Tucson they have been doing a lot of practicing to get ready for the parade.

"For me personally, I've been training at home so at least once every weekend I sit down and do the parade route for about an hour or so, trying to work up to the two-mile mark continually doing the parade route making sure you have it down, building up endurance to be able to complete that amazing feat," said Madeline Cheu.

"I do the same thing as Madeline, doing laps around my block, doing the parade route routine over and over. I also run cross country so I have been using the running to try and help build my endurance because it is a lot to be jumping for two hours and 2.8 miles in distance," said Karah Mayer.

Mayer and Cheu have also performed in half-time shows at University of Arizona games, as well as at a Harlem Globetrotters exhibition in Phoenix.
