TUCSON (KVOA) - The Biden Administration is announcing it will purchase a total of one billion tests to give to Americans for free as COVID-19 cases continue to surge throughout the country.

This is all expected to happen in the coming weeks. The Biden Administration said the goal is to make sure there is equitable access to free COVID-19 testing for all Americans.

"Rollout a website next week where you can order a free test shipped to your home," President Biden said.

The Biden Administration said half a billion of those tests will be available to order on Wednesday, and will be mailed directly to American homes through the United States Postal Service. The initial program will allow four free tests to be requested per residential address.

Earlier this week the Biden Administration announced that starting Saturday, private health insurance companies will be required to cover at-home COVID-19 tests for free. This means insurance companies and health plans are required to cover eight free at home tests per covered individual per month.

To ensure access for all, there will also be a call line for those who don't have internet access to obtain free at home tests.

Beginning Wednesday, people will be able to order COVID-19 tests online at covidtests.gov.

Tests are expected to ship within seven to 12 days.
