TUCSON (KVOA) - A new study done by the University of Arizona Health Sciences have discovered a clash between Chemotherapy patients and COVID-19.
According to UArizona researchers, they compared 53 chemo patients' immune response following the first and second dose of the Pfizer vaccine with 50 healthy adults.
Results showed that chemo patients have a lower immune response to two doses of the vaccine, while some had no response at all. In addition to these results, 20 patients returned for a third dose of the vaccine in which researchers said it boosted their immune response significantly.
Researchers said that those undergoing chemotherapy affects not only cancer but the immune cells needed to protect the body from infections.
