Arizona is recording its highest number of ICU beds being used by COVID-19 patients

Dozens of ICU beds available in Pima County as COVID-19 hospitalizations rise

TUCSON (KVOA) – A record number of COVID-19 patients are in the ICU in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Health Services says there's a new high of 988 patients with COVID-19 occupying intensive care unit beds as of Sunday.

This accounts for 56% of the beds statewide.

Arizona is having its worst surge since July, when 970 people with the virus were in the ICU on July 13th; accounting for 57% of available beds. The number of available ICU beds is about 10% at the moment. AZDHS recorded three deaths Sunday, bringing the toll to 8,427. Additionally, they also reported a total of 1,296 confirmed cases.

September 23rd was recorded to be the lowest number of ICU beds being used by COVID-19 patients; 114 beds were in use at that time, accounting for 7% of beds in the state.
