TUCSON - Family and friends gathered to remember four-year-old Emma and 17-month-old Richard Junior Rosovich.

Just over a week ago, they were shot in their own home.

Richard Junior was pronounced dead at the scene.

His sister died on the way to the hospital.

Their mother Perla Morales was arrested for the crime.

Media was not allowed inside during the mass.

Family requested that we respect their privacy as they grieve and pray for Emma and Richard Junior.

As the church bells rang and family and friends filed in, they turned their heavy hearts to their faith.

"They're little angels now...keep that in mind," said Luis Moreno, a family friend.

During the mass, they said the priest also offered another thought to help ease the pain.

"Just that they're in a better place now," said Moreno.

Outside, cars with loving messages were painted on windows in memory of the two children.

"We are just so sad about what happened," said Martha Maria.

Maria said she's a friend of the four-year-old's biological dad.

"They are just devastated about losing Emma," said Maria.

Emma and Richard Junior's mother Perla Morales is under arrest.

Police said she shot her two children.

Family said it happened after an argument with her boyfriend.

"It's so difficult because we don't understand why she did it. I don't think we'll ever understand it," said Maria.

As family and friends lay the two children to rest, they wrestle with the children's fate.

"It's very unfortunate. It shouldn't have been that way," said Moreno.
