TUCSON - A local non-profit dedicated toward collecting supplies and providing aid in response to national and international disasters is being forced to close its services effective November 1st.
Seven water main breaks have plagued the building currently occupied by World Care. It was donated to the group by TUSD but the existing damage has made it too expensive to continue that way, said World Care C.E.O and Founder Lisa Hopper.
"The repair cost and the infrastructure has just gotten to a point where it's way too costly, and that's not where I want my donors' money to go," Hopper said.
While World Care has secured a new site at the Pioneer building downtown for it's headquarters, there is no room to collect donations there.
"That will give us an opportunity to begin to rebuild World Care within the community over the next couple of months ... but we need the community's help in helping us raise about $250,000 in order to make that happen," Hopper said.
World Care is now asking for the publics help in supporting a new site and assist in this emergency transition.
For the next two weeks World Care will hold a yard sale to raise money to support the emergency it faces.
According to a release, World Care has provided more than $55 million in humanitarian aid within the community as well as in response to disasters across the globe.
