Posted 10:34 PM 5/25/2013 : Vigil held for stabbed convenience store clerk
TUCSON - Friends, family and coworkers of a convenience store clerk who was fatally stabbed held a vigil Saturday night at Udall Park.
Erick Bridges worked at the AM-PM near Tanque Verde and Pantano Roads. Somebody stabbed him May 17 around 1 a.m. He died the next day.
Bridges proposed to Christina Brown in November 2012.
"It was the best day of my life," Brown said. "He was an amazing person. He was funny. He was nice. Everybody liked him. I was very lucky to have met him."
Police told Brown about the stabbing around 2:30 a.m. after it happened.
"My whole world was just rocked," she said. "I couldn't believe it. My whole meaning to life was gone."
Bridges' manager, Jamie Ott, organized the vigil. She is good friends with retired Air Force Colonel and former congressional candidate, Martha McSally, who sang "Amazing Grace."
"I'm really honored to participate as a member of the community," McSally said. "[Ott] is family to Erick, and she's family to me, so we are all family."
The reward for Bridges' killer is up to $27,000. Tipsters can call 911 or give anonymous information to 88-CRIME.
Police believe they recovered the suspect's backpack and sweatshirt and hope somebody knows who they belong to.
