Posted 4:57 PM 4/25/2013 : VIDEO: Tire fire on southeast Tucson fueled by winds
Editor's note: the following is a statement from Rural/Metro Fire Department:
Rural/Metro Fire Crews responded this afternoon to reports of a fire in a tire shop. Arriving to the 3600 block of south Palo Verde Road crews found heavy black smoke and large flame lengths coming from between two commercial buildings. The area on fire served as a storage area of used tires and retired vehicle storage.
With high winds crews had to act fast to keep the flames from spreading. Getting the buildings evacuated and extending hose lines rapidly, the initial crew held the fire from spreading into the buildings.
It took 22 fire fighters approximately 35 minutes to have the fire out. The plume of smoke was rapidly dispersed with the winds, so there was no health hazard. No evacuations other than the businesses affected and no injuries to report. The cause is under investigation, an estimation of damages as well.
