(NBC News) - Planners of the Republican National Convention are keeping a very close eye on the development of Tropical Storm Isaac.
Thousands of delegates and media members will converge on Tampa next week for the political gathering.
"Isaac" could make things very interesting.
The local host committee says delegates shouldn't worry.
"We do have a plan in place if there is a major storm," says Ken Jones. "Whether it's a hurricane, a tropical depression, anything like that. There are plans in place and those plans will kick in if they need to."
Jones says protecting life, health and safety for everyone is the first priority, even if it means moving proceedings elsewhere or conducting business over the internet.
If any evacuations are called for in Tampa there will not be special precautions taken for delegates.
Any evacuation orders and actions would apply to everyone in the area.
In 2008, Hurricane Gustav forced Republicans to have an abbreviated convention as the storm hit New Orleans while Republicans met in St. Paul, Minnesota.
