TUCSON - The Salvation Army is asking for donations as the summer temperatures heat up.
Tamara McElwee, the organization's spokeswoman said the group only has about 10 cases of water, which is a two day supply.
"Normally right now we'd want to be going out to the parks making sure we're reaching out to the people that are on the streets and we can't do that. We need to make sure we have enough at the door for the people that are coming to the and people that are here at the shelter," she explained.
The Salvation Army is asking for donations to be dropped off at any one of the five Naughton's Plumbing locations in Tucson, or the Salvation Army Hospitality House located at 1021 N. 11th Street. They are in need of bottled water, hats/caps, sunglasses, sunscreen, and ChapStick.
McElwee said staff is seeing an increase in the number of people living out of their cars or in their homes without air-conditioning or coolers, "that water can make a life saving difference."
Triple digit is expected throughout the week with heat advisories in places like Phoenix and Yuma. The National Weather Service urges the public to avoid strenuous activities outdoors, drink plenty of water wearing light and loose clothing.
