TUCSON- East coast residents are bracing themselves for Sandy.
Maurice Sevigny is checking on his family. They live near Baltimore, Maryland. His wife is visiting there. He tells her over the phone, "It's tough being here in Tucson and you being out in the middle of that storm."
Sevigny, is a retired dean of the Fine Arts college from the University of Arizona. His wife Shirley says, "The wind is picking up now and I think the heaviest wind is tonight between midnight and six tomorrow morning."
Just yesterday they were at the family beach house in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Their son Marc shot video of the waves crashing and the rain coming down. They were evacuated and now are bracing for the storm in Salisbury Maryland.
Shirley says, "They're scared about the beach house because the eye is hitting on Cape May which is the next spot beyond Bethany Beach and they've got 80 to 90 mile an hour winds." She says it's pretty bad.
Some east coast residents managed to escape the storm. They're here in Tucson for a family wedding. They were supposed to arrive later in the week but Bryan Rountree says their plans changed. "We called American Airlines and got the tickets changed we were on the last flight out of Newark last night."
David Gibbs says the airport shut down two hours later. "Now we're just hoping to get the rest of our family can get out here on Thursday."
Gibbs says he has been closely monitoring the storm. "Basically Jersey and New York City are in the eye of the storm. We have about 35 people that we're going to have to figure how to get out here."
He says it's looking grim and he's walking around with a heavy heart. "When I spoke to the family today they were telling me all the people who belong to JCP& L which is the electric company that probably 80% of 1,000,000 people will be out of electricity for 7 to 10 days."
Ken Gibbs says he will have a conference call tonight with family members on what they're going to do to get to Tucson for the wedding that takes place on Saturday.
