TUCSON - Local same-sex couples applaud Supreme Court rulings that bolster gay marriage.
Erin Butler and Siobhan McDonald got married at Tanque Verde Guest Ranch on March 15. They have been together 5 years and say they are just like most heterosexual couples.
"In general, I think, yes," McDonald said. "It's very the same."
"There isn't a whole lot of difference," Butler said.
Butler did not think she would see the Supreme Court defend gay marriage.
"It's amazing," she said. "So hence, a lot of happy tears this morning. Just like, ‘Wow, this just really happened.'"
Arizona has a voter-approved constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. The Court's decision does not change that. The ruling did not say couples have a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.
