Posted 6:08 PM 5/29/2012 : Woman left for dead on eastside
TUCSON - Tucson police are on the hunt for a suspect who may be tied to a woman left to die in an east side alley.
There were two incidents that appear to be related.
First there were reports of a couple fighting in a car, near 22nd and Alvernon around 8:00 Tuesday this morning. Police tracked the car down at Craycroft and Broadway but the man and woman took off. She was caught, but the man escaped
While searching, police also found a woman bleeding in a nearby alley. She was transported to a hospital but later died.
The homicide comes as a total shock to a neighborhood that's normally quiet. However, residents there said they've already been on edge for a month because of the Isabel Celis case that happened about a block away.
The two cases are totally unrelated but the massive police presence has really fired things back up. It wasn't the outcome many expected, but it wasn't one they wanted either.
Tom Duffy lives in the area near where the body was found. He said, "Shocked. Hard to believe it would happen in this neighborhood."
Police wouldn't tell us details of the victim's injuries other than blunt force trauma, but investigators did tell some residents who then relayed the message to us. We can't release the information until police confirm it but it's pretty gruesome."
Carol Sonberg is another area resident that shocked at the news. She said, "Absolutely crazy violence. It's scary to know that people can do that and its happening right in your back yard. It makes me stop and take a breath."
And she said the timing of this whole thing couldn't be worse. Sonberg said, "We're all on high alert right now because of disappearing children and now this all in this neighborhood that's so close. It's scary. It sends chills."
We asked residents if they'll be doing anything differently because of this and they said they'll be more vigilant and keep a closer eye out, but they won't let crime dictate their lives.
