TUCSON - Officers are still searching for a man they say was involved in an altercation yesterday morning in a car driving around Tucson that left a 16-year-old girl dead.

Tucson Police Department received several 911 calls at about 8:15 a.m. yesterday, regarding a vehicle that was driving erratically near the intersection of 22nd St. and South Alvernon Way, according to a news release from TPD. Officers responded, and saw a car matching the callers' description exiting a residential neighborhood near Broadway and Craycroft. Officers followed the vehicle to a commercial parking lot near the intersection when a man and a woman fled from the car.

An Air Unit and K-9 units responded, and the woman was apprehended at the Embassy Suites Hotel near where the car had stopped. She has been described as a 19-year-old Native-American woman.
As officers were searching for the man and woman, they found a 16-year-old Native-American girl suffering from "obvious signs of trauma," the Tucson Police news release states. Officers began to administer CPR, and emergency crews transported her to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and died.

Police have since determined that these two incidents appear to be related. The release states: "It appeared that the deceased female had been in the vehicle with the male and female that ran from the car. An altercation ensued between the three as they were traveling throughout various parts of town. At some point, the female victim suffered severe injuries during the course of the altercation." The vehicle allegedly stopped in an alleyway and dropped the girl off, and was then spotted by an officer as it was exited the neighborhood.

Police are still searching for the male suspect. He has been described as a 20-year-old Hispanic man, 6-feet tall, 200 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and dark-colored pants.

At this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation continues. Anyone who may have witnessed portions of the altercation, or has information on the incident or the identity of the male involved in these incidents is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
