Posted 4:10 PM 9/4/2012 : TPD: Man is shot, then returns fire and kills shooter on southeast side
TUCSON - Investigators say a man who was shot on the southeast side early Tuesday morning returned fire, striking and killing the other man.
Tucson Police officers responded to the 3200 block of South Mann Avenue, near Golf Links and Kolb at about 1:39 a.m. Tuesday morning, to find a man suffering serious, but non-life-threatening gunshot trauma, according to a news release from TPD.
After making contact with the injured man, officer found a second adult man also suffering from gunshot trauma in the street, near the intersection of South Calle Polar and East 42nd Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.
Homicide detectives spoke to nearby residents and collected evidence from the scene. The initial indications are that the man who was injured was walking on Calle Polar before the incident. The man who was killed was in a vehicle, then exited it, approached the other man, and began firing a handgun at him, striking him at least once, the release states.
The injured man returned fire with a handgun, striking and killing the other man from the car. The injured man then ran to a nearby residence and called 911, according to TPD officials.
At least one house in the area was struck with gunfire, but there were no reported injuries from stray gunfire.
TPD continues to investigate this incident to establish a motive and relationship between the two men.
