Posted 7:03 PM 10/6/2012 : Tombstone residents react to shooting death of 15-year-old boy
TOMBSTONE, Ariz. - The Tombstone neighborhood is on edge after an officer-involved shooting in the 1200 block of Camino San Rafael.
"It's out of the ordinary to say the least," said longtime Tombstone resident, Joe Smith.
The Tombstone Marshal's Office responded to an emergency call about a burglary early this morning along with U.S. Border Patrol as back-up.
The Marshal's Office said in a news release that when one of its deputies arrived on the scene, he encountered a 15-year-old boy who was armed with a firearm. That's when, officials say, the deputy fatally shot the suspect.
The boy was a Tombstone resident.
Folks around the area are a bit shaken up, as law enforcement works to further investigate the scene.
"So yeah I'm not used to that...wow...I still can't get over it." Smith told News 4 Tucson. "I don't think it will happen again, at least I hope not."
The barricaded street and heavy law enforcement presense helps put crime in the area into focus for some residents.
"We have break-ins constantly," said Vikki Taylor, who lives in the neighborhood where the incident took place.
That's somthing Tombstone residents hope will bring additional patrolling to their neighborhood.
"There are some other houses down here that got broken into...it's rampant," Taylor told News 4 Tucosn. "I mean, I'm afraid to leave my house for too long because if I come home everything will be gone."
