Posted 3:00 PM 11/15/2011 : This Biggest Loser shed 230 pounds with diet and exercise alone
TUCSON - Larry Wood was never overweight growing up but as he got older and his metabolism slowed down, the pounds packed on. Until he finally had enough.
"I kind of felt like my life was over, I felt this is going to be it," Wood said.
At 416 pounds he had high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, sleep apnea and back pain.
"I couldn't walk more than a half a block without having to stop and I even used a cane for a while," Wood said.
Larry looked into weight-loss surgery but eventually shelved the idea after losing 90 pounds in four months on a doctor-supervised liquid diet. From there healthy eating habits and regular exercise helped Larry shed a total of 230 pounds, and he has kept it off for almost 10 years.
Now he stays on track by keeping track of his daily exercise and calorie intake. He also studies up on health and fitness to make sure he is eating and working out the right way.
"You can make little changes, changes in your diet, but you have to stick with it," he said.
Small changes that can make a life-saving difference.
"If I did it, I swear anybody can do it," said Wood. "Don't underestimate yourself, I think the more you go the more you feel you can accomplish."
