TUCSON - Ten people have been arrested and 14 pounds of high grade hydroponic marijuana were confiscated after a raid by narcotics officers at several local medical marijuana certification businesses.
Officers dropped in on four Tucson Shop 420.org locations: midtown Grant, Broadway, 7th street and 12th street.
In all, officers seized $50,000 worth of marijuana. They also found 25 pounds of marijuana candy.
The people arrested are facing charges of marijuana possession for sale and money laundering.
With two schools nearby and a Boys and Girls Club down the street, many students pass by the store on a daily basis. Several say they're relieved to hear about the bust.
Stephan Gabreth and Alberto Matas said they saw the police raid and are glad to see Shop 420.org shut down.
"It can affect and change our school society because people can either bring it on campus, get in trouble, sell it to our students or worst of all just get killed over it," said Matas.
The business advertises consulting and educational services, but police said they were also growing and selling marijuana out of the building and not just to medical marijuana card users.
"I'm an ex-marijuana smoker, and for it to be right there, it kind of was messing up me being clean off of it," said teen Devon Craddock.
But high schooler Angel said shutting down this business and confiscating more than 30 pounds of marijuana doesn't make much of a difference in the life of a teen.
"It's not that big of a deal because we deal with drugs every day. Not us personally but kids around us always have drugs," said Angel.
John McDowell with the Boys and Girls Club said he doesn't know if there is any community that drugs haven't touched.
"Anytime we see the drugs off the street we're relieved, but we are not naïve enough to put our guards down because we know when one goes down, two takes its place," said McDowell.
The Boys and Girls Clubs have several programs to teach kids to steer clear of drugs.
