NOGALES - Sewage is flowing into the United States from Mexico.

A sewer line runs next to the Nogales Wash south of the border. Monsoon storms filled the wash and the flow broke the 24-inch pipe.

The water is being treated with chlorine.

The City of Nogales has warned people not to go near the polluted wash.

Sewage has been an issue in the past and could flow through Nogales again.

Carlos Pena works for the International Boundary and Water Commission, which is working with several agencies to solve the recurring problem.

"It takes resources and that's always a challenge for a community," Pena said. "It's been looked at and continued to be evaluated. But right now, we have to deal with the immediate concern of trying to come up with an immediate solution."
