Posted 2:22 PM 7/3/2012 : Scottsdale Police release naked carjacker 911 audio
(NBC) - A carjacking suspect who stripped off his clothes and caused multiple car accidents in Scottsdale, Arizona is still undergoing tests at a local hospital officials said Monday.
John Brigham, 45, of Gilbert was being evaluated for drugs or mental issues and treated for injuries, said Sgt. Mark Clark, a Scottsdale police spokesman.
Brigham also had a previous run-in with Scottsdale police last November, though he used a towel to cover up and no one was hurt, records show.
Police are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if Brigham was under the influence of drugs during the accidents that injured seven people and shut down multiple roads in Scottsdale on Friday afternoon, Clark said.
In 911 calls released by the Scottsdale Police Department on Monday morning, witnesses talk to dispatchers as they watch Brigham strip off his clothes and climb on top of a car to sing and chant after causing the first collision on Hayden Road and Via de Ventura in Scottsdale.
"Oh my God, he's naked crawling on top of his car, oh my God," a woman is heard saying to dispatchers.
"You have to get police out here, you have to get the ambulance. ... This guy is just nuts," said another caller.
Police suspect Brigham then pulled a woman out of a blue Toyota Prius and drove the car near 90th Street and Shea Boulevard, where, moments later, he caused another pileup of cars that left a pregnant woman with broken legs and three others injured.
Two more witnesses on the 911 calls reported seeing the Prius driving eastbound on the westbound lanes of Shea.
"There was someone driving on Shea Boulevard in the wrong direction, and it seems at like 60 mph," one witness said. "A powder-blue Prius zoomed by me."
Brigham has not been arrested in connection with Friday's incidents but could face charges of robbery and leaving the scene of an injury collision, Clark said.
