TUCSON - The Salvation Army and Southwest Gas have teamed together to host Natural Gas Assistance Day.
Due to Southern Arizona's recent cold snap some might be shocked when opening up this month's utility bill. The Salvation Army, in partnership with Southwest Gas is making assistance available to Southwest Gas customers to help out with that expensive bill.
Mary Salinas is one of dozens of Tucsonans looking for help with her utility bill. She says it dipped below twenty degrees at her house forcing her to crank up her heat.
"When it went below freezing we had to crank the heat and it was on all day so that made my gas bill pretty high, 200 hundred dollars," explains Salinas.
Ashley Lueders, The Salvation Army, realized Salinas' financial stress would be the same for many Tucson families so they're reaching out to those in need.
Lueders says, "The Salvation Army's mission is to help people and when unexpected cold temps come through we want to be able to help in all ways."
This event will be held Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 at The Salvation Army City Admin Office located at 1001 N. Richey Blvd. from 8 a.m - 4 p.m. Bills do not need to be delinquent to receive the assistance as long as low-income and/or hardship can be measured through the application review process of all required documents.
