TUCSON - There is a chance that the Tucson Padres will be heading east - there are reports of a group in El Paso looking to buy the Triple-A team sometime in the next six weeks.
According to a New Mexico newspaper, the Tucson-based affiliate of the San Diego Padres is being considered by a group of El Pasoans who would build a privately-funded stadium. The team remains in Tucson after a deal fell through for Escondido, California to host the ball club.
Sources told the newspaper that if the team were to move to El Paso, they would continue playing here until a new stadium is built - likely not until the summer of 2015.
