TUCSON, Ariz. - Behind Kevin Parrom's team-high 17 points and six rebounds, the Red team prevailed, 62-58, Sunday in the University of Arizona men's basketball team's McDonald's Red-Blue Game.
Grant Jerrett chipped in a team-best eight boards to go along with 14 points, while Nick Johnson posted a game-high 20 points in a losing effort for the Blue squad.
Defense dominated the early part of the game with nine total points scored in the first five and a half minutes of the game.
Both teams spread the ball around with the first 22 points being scored by nine different Wildcats.
The Red team led the game 28-24 at the half with Mark Lyons leading all scorers with 11 points and Solomon Hill leading the game with six boards.
Red added to its lead to open the second half and extended to a game-high 15 points on an and-1 dunk from Kevin Parrom.
Blue then reeled off an 11-4 run to get back in the game, as Johnson collected seven points in the stretch. Later, the Blue team scored seven straight points in 55 seconds to begin a 13-5 scoring run to make it a four-point game with a minute to play.
Two Ashley free throws cut the lead to two but T.J. McConnell's layup with five seconds to go iced the win for the Red team.
Both teams recovered from poor shooting performances in the first half, a combined 36%, to shoot lights out in the second half, a combined 54%.
Seven players posted double-digit point totals: Johnson (20), Parrom (14), Solomon Hill (14), Lyons (13), Ashley (11) and Kaleb Tarczewski (10).
Johnson, Jerrett and Lyons each dished four assists in the contest.
"I would obviously love to thank all of our fans and everybody who came today to make it a sellout," said head coach Sean Miller. "I thought our guys did a good job. Intrasquad scrimmages are always difficult. As one team scores, you look at the defense and when a team doesn't score, you look at the offense."
The scrimmage followed a series of pregame festivities that honor current and former Wildcats. The pageantry began with the Adaptive Athletics Wild Chairs wheelchair basketball scrimmage.
The current team was then introduced one-by-one and entered a dark McKale Center through flame shooters.

The 1988 Final Four team - celebrating it's 25-year anniversary -- was then honored in the same manner with Sean Elliott, Steve Kerr, Tom Tolbert, Joe Turner, Craig McMillan, Harvey Mason, Matt Muehlebach, Kenny Lofton, Jud Buechler, Sean Rooks and Head Coach Lute Olson entering to an abundance of applause from a sold-out McKale crowd.
After a brief warmup and message to the 14,365 fans from Coach Miller, Matt Korcheck, Johnson, Brandon Ashley, Jerrett and Gabe York competed in a dunk contest judged by Tom Tolbert, Craig McMillan, Steve Kerr, Sean Elliott and Jud Buechler. York, with 94 points, took home the title by leaping over 6-9 Angelo Chol and 6-10 Korcheck for the dunk and the perfect 50 point score from the judges.
Andre Iguodala was inducted into the McKale Center Ring of Honor and shared a message with the fans via the video board from Nuggets' training camp.
Arizona Basketball continues its exhibition slate when it takes on Humboldt State on Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. MST at McKale Center.
