TUCSON - A University of Arizona student is victimized in broad daylight. Campus police say a man grabbed her purse and ran off. The girl was terrified.
The victim says he's responsible for stealing her personal belongings including her wallet.
It happened near 5th and Tyndall mid-morning one day last month. Police say the suspect is in his in his 40's. Sgt. Juan Alvarez says, "He was described by our victim as white male with shorter curly dingy hair brown hair, scruffy beard, yellow teeth."
A student who lives in the same dorm as the victim says the girl was making sure everyone knew what happened so they can be on alert. Jade Brown says, "I run at night with my friends and to know that there is someone close by our dorm makes me feel unsafe so I haven't been working out at night like I normally do."
The victim told her friends she felt powerless and scared, she says, "It looked like the guy had something underneath his jacket and she was scared because she didn't know what he could possibly have so she just gave him her purse."
UA police say if anyone feels threatened or sees suspicious activity go to the emergency blue light phones. They give direct access to police, or just use your cell phone and call 9-1-1. Sgt Alvarez says, "We want to make sure this individual is held responsible. So he can pay for his crime and make sure he is no longer able to victimize other people in the future."
