TUCSON - West University residents are bracing for the first football game weekend for college students, concerned with prior disturbances from a nearby apartment complex.
Residents living near the student-targeted apartment complex, The District on 5th, are wary of possible partying and loud noise coming from the buildings.
Lance Lesny, who has lived in the neighborhood since the 1980s, says the new apartment complex has changed the traditionally 'quiet neighborhood.'
"Living here, trying to deal with it, it's really been horrible," Lesny told News 4 Tucson.
Neighbors tell News 4 Tucson that Tucson Police have been seen at the complex the last couple of weekends. They say the new students living nearby have brought loud music, packed parties leading to the apartment's pool area being red tagged by TPD. They also say they have given nearby neighbors a hassle on the weekends.
Max Wilson, who lives at The District doesn't agree with the police response to the partying.
"They're college students, they're going to have parties in the pool area. You can't really stop it," Wilson said. "It gets loud but every apartment complex gets loud."
Now, management of the complex are taking action. They issued a statment to KVOA, which said: "We understand that our property is part of a larger residential community and consequently, are strictly enforcing noise and safety regulations with our residents."
The statement also said they will continue an open dialogue with the neighboring community.
Lance Lesny says this is a good first step and he is hopeful for a solution.
"Not everything has been resolved but we're hoping we're on track to fix the situation," Lesny said.
