TUCSON - Police are seeing a seasonal increase in burglaries.

Tucson City Councilman Steve Kozachik invited TPD to a community meeting at the Ward 6 office Wednesday evening.

Police gave the room full of people advice on how to stay safe.

Phoebe Robinson went because she has been a burglary victim.

"Anytime you come home, you're wondering, ‘What's happened now? What's missing? Has someone been here?" she said. "I was always fearful that one day maybe they wouldn't limit their entry into my house to taking things."

Most break-ins happen during the day when nobody is home.

Most burglars are caught because they were selling stolen items. Police need people to keep track of valuables by writing down serial numbers and taking pictures.

Many burglars come in through garages because garage door openers are left in cars.

Police investigate many cases where the homeowner did not lock their doors.

If you receive valuable presents, do not leave the boxes by the trash. That advertises the gadgets burglars might be able to steal.

Police want people to start neighborhood watches because they are a huge crime deterrent.
