TUCSON - Two separate single-vehicle accidents have killed two 20-year-old men on the southwest side this morning.

At 3:25 a.m., Tucson Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover collision that occurred on West Drexel Road and South Woodcrest Drive, near Midvale Park. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Jose Manuel Estrada Mendez, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a TPD news release.,

Detectives have determined that the vehicle was traveling east on Drexel Road at high speeds when the driver apparently lost control, causing the vehicle to roll over several times, leaving the roadway along the southern curb, the news release states. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a wall in a culvert running parallel to the roadway.

In addition to speed, alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, TPD officials state. An autopsy will be conducted to determine whether alcohol or other factors were involved.

Later in the morning, another person died after the vehicle they were driving hit a brick wall on a road near Drexel and Country Club.

Luis Carlos Zapien Duran, 20, has been identified as the driver and sole occupant of a car that struck a brick wall in the 3200 block of East Holladay Street this morning at around 5 a.m., according to a news release from Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say the car was traveling west on Holladay when it crossed to the south shoulder of the roadway and struck the wall. Speed, alcohol, and drugs are possible factors in the collision, authorities state.

The investigation continues.
