TUCSON-A big ceremony is planned Monday to welcome the U of A's new president.

Dr. Ann Weaver Hart is the school's 21st president.

She's also the first woman to hold that job.

Students and faculty have high expectations for the new president.

The university was quiet on this Summer Sunday afternoon, but come Monday, the pep band and cheerleaders will welcome the new president to campus.

"I am most honored and proud to be the newest member of your team," said Hart in a video by the University of Arizona News.

Dr. Hart explains what she most looks forward to about working at the university.

"The chance to bring all of my experiences in higher education together to help to be a member of a great team," said Dr. Hart.

Hart hasn't even begun her first day yet, but students and faculty are already talking about what they hope she can accomplish.

"Try to mingle with the students," said Stella Song.

Song is an international student.

She said it would be great if Dr. Hart could make time for several meet and greets with students throughout the year, so that she can get a feel for students' concerns.

"Kind of hope to lower the tuition," said Song.

Junior Sarah Edwards said if she could meet with Dr. Hart, she would discuss her concern with the arts department.

Her hope is for the university to invest more money in that department.

"I think it's important. The United States tends to focus on sports and ignore the arts, and I think there should be an even balance between the two," said Edwards.

Faculty member Gene McClain said she hopes Dr. Hart helps the University of Arizona become the leader in bio technology.

"The new president is exceptionally well positioned to help lead us," said McClain.

McClain said she's excited for the university's new chapter with Dr. Hart.

The welcome ceremony will be Monday 8:30 in the morning on the campus mall outside of the UA Administration building.
