Posted 10:23 PM 8/17/2012 : New high school plays first varsity football game
SAHARITA - Walden Grove High School just played its first varsity football game.
"It's pretty exciting," Principal Teresa Hill said. "We've been waiting for this for a year, so our kids are excited, and we think it's going to be a good showing."
The school opened last year with fresman and sophomore classes. They added juniors this year. There is no senior class yet.
Alyssa Enriquez will be in the first graduating class in 2014.
"It feels like we're a part of history," Enriquez said. "We get to make all the traditions for years to come. We're all going to be a part of it."
Going to a relatively small school with only 700 students has its down sides.
"It's really empty," freshman Reese Moorehouse said. "We're the biggest class so far."
"It's different," Enriquez said. "Because we're a smaller school, everybody picks on us a little bit."
The Walden Grove Red Wolves lost to a team from Prescott Valley 42-13.
