TUCSON - A Tucson dispensary waits to open its doors hoping to be one of the first medical marijuana dispensaries in Tucson.

The location would be adjacent to a gas station on Wilmont and the I10 just a few yards from a neighborhood a place where neighbors say children are often outside playing.

"When I first found out it was going to be there I was like oh god," said Janet Brooks. "This is a neighborhood full of kids and to have a like marijuana shop like over there or you know like since there is not a good look," said Brooks.

They are concerned that even though the dispensary is for medical marijuana, kids could get the wrong impression. "It's just like influencing them that it's good to smoke weed or it's okay," said Brooks.

But Ken Sobel who would be running the dispensary said he only wants the best for the patients. "Only qualified patients are going to come into our dispensary. They are already going to have a card issued to them by the state. They are already going to be approved by their physician to have that, so the only people we're servicing are qualified patients," said Sobel.

Since it would be the first dispensary in Tucson, a man who lives a quarter of a mile behind the location said he doesn't know what to expect. "I don't foresee any problems unless you get hundreds and hundreds of people coming there when it first opens," he said. But he hopes for the best. "Time will tell," he said.

Sobel said the dispensary would be for non-profit.  He said he plans to donate anything the dispensary earns above expenses to charity.
