TUCSON - Sheron Jones is celebrating Memorial Day as a mother whose son was killed in Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Darrel Kasson Died March 4, 2007 after his vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. He was a 20-year Army National Guard Veteran 4 months into his deployment.
Jones placed a special flower on his grave at Evergreen Mortuary Sunday.
"It helps my heart heal," she said, "and I can come here and talk. He can't talk back to me, but I can say what I want to say."
She used to celebrate Memorial Day just like everybody else.
"It was, take your family and go on vacation," she said, "or go to the lake, or go to the mountains, and it's changed for me now."
She will be speaking at a ceremony at Evergreen Mortuary Monday morning at 9 a.m. She hopes people will reflect on those who have died fighting for their country.
"Just take the time out," Jones said. "Remember everybody that we have lost and are still losing. Just say a prayer for them, just a remembrance."
