Posted 6:17 PM 9/30/2012 : Monsoon 2012 wraps up
TUCSON-Monsoon 2012 officially comes to an end Sunday.
It was an active monsoon.
It wasn't one of the wettest to date.
We actually got just over 6 inches of rain this year close to the norm for our area, but the record still belongs to the year 1964 with almost 14 inches of rain.
The monsoon can be a beauty but with it sometimes comes devastation.
It downed trees, broke power poles and flooded areas.
Tucson Fire Department responded to numerous stranded vehicles and three swift water rescues.
In the Northwest area, there were over two dozen swift water rescues.
In Avra Valley there was one death.
Angelina Carrasco was swept away while inside her vehicle in a flooded area.
Firefighters said one of the biggest challenges during monsoon continues to be keeping drivers from crossing into flooded areas.
