Posted 10:40 PM 7/13/2012 : Modern Streetcar project reaches milestone
TUCSON - A section of 4th Avenue is no longer a major construction zone.
It is part of the $200 million Modern Streetcar project.
Fences are down, and the work is largely done on 4th Avenue between 6th Street and University Boulevard.
"It's nice to be able to walk without all the fences," Jeff Davis said, "and without all the construction noise."
Pedestrians had to walk out of their way to get around the blocks-long fences.
"It's just a lot more open," Gina Jurek said, "and it seems less chaotic somehow."
Craig Wilson runs businesses on 4th Avenue, including Breakout Studios. He is excited about the streetcar project completion.
"I think it's going to be a good destination place for Tucson," Wilson said. "I think it's going to be very good. We're excited."
Businesses to the south will have the same problems Monday. The Avenue will be closed and fences will block pedestrians on 4th Avenue South of 6th Street.
