TUCSON - The remains of missing Linda Watson have been discovered. For nearly 12 years her family and a community has wondered what happened to Linda Watson? Now, Pima County Sheriff's officials have answers but they're only giving out a limited amount of information on the case.

Captain Chris Nanos says Watson's remains were discovered in Pima County some time ago.

"This case is sensitive because in our eyes, it is a homicide that needs to be solved," Capt. Nanos said.  "We just ask for your patience and we will get to the bottom of this."

Capt. Nanos says the remains were taken to the medical examiner's office for DNA testing. The office ruled Linda Watson was murdered. Officials aren't saying how or when she was murdered, because "there's just a piece of information that only us and the killer will know," Capt. Nanos said.

What he can release is that back in 2000, when Watson went missing, detectives were looking at two suspects Watson was having problems with: an ex-husband and an ex-boyfriend.

"We've not eliminated anyone, as far as suspects go," he said.  "If they were suspects then they are still are suspects."

Three years after Watson disappeared, her mother Marilyn Cox was gunned down in her driveway along with a neighbor Renee Farnsworth. That case has yet to be closed. So the question: is Linda Watson's murder connected to her mother's case?

"My own personal opinion yes I do" thank the cases are connected, Capt. Nanos said.  "Do we have to know that to be fact or not at this time, are we working in that direction I believe we are."
He adds, they will solve this case, and he believes they are close to that.
