Despite freezing temperatures, tens of thousands of people gathered in Washington D.C. Friday for one of the nation's largest anti-abortion demonstrations.

They came from across the country for the March For Life, against abortion.

Tens of thousands of people bundled up for the snow and called on the Supreme Court to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

Chad Stolly road a bus overnight from Ohio with about 150 other people.

"I'm a father and I just know how precious life is," he said.

Pat Murray is a Pennsylvania nurse.

She hasn't missed the march in 28 years, since first witnessing an abortion.

"You are killing, you are taking the place off God," Murray said.

Republicans leaders joined marchers for a rally on the National Mall.

"We are proud to be here with you," said former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

The Pope even tweeted his support.

"Benedict the 16th is with us!" Cardinal Sean O'Malley told a cheering crowd.

As marchers filled Constitution Avenue on a trek to the Supreme Court they were greeted by counter protesters.

In the past two years Republicans legislators have passed 135 new state restrictions, but the latest NBC News/Wall St. Journal poll found 70 percent of Americans support the Roe v. Wade decision.

The 40th anniversary of roe vs wade was tuesday, but because that was the day after inauguration- organizers moved their demonstrations to Friday.
