MARANA - A ribbon-cutting ceremony in Marana this afternoon will celebrate the installation of a new electric vehicle charging station.

The event is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Crossroads at Silverbell District Park. The charging station can be accessed by using the park entrance off Silverbell.

The new station is part of the EV Project, a public-private partnership which pushes to expand the use of alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuel, and is funded in part by a federal stimulus grant by the Department of Energy.

Marana will host charging stations at three locations: Crossroads at Silverbell Park, the Marana Operations Center and Ora Mae Harn Park. These "Blink Network" stations will be an intuitive and user-friendly way to safely charge electric vehicles.
