Posted 5:00 AM 5/24/2012 : Local resorts rolling out special rates to attract 'staycationers'
The Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner, and with gas prices and airline costs higher than most people would like, several local resorts are rolling out some special deals to help Tucsonans have a "getaway" close to home.
"We've seen an increase in people wanting to do what we now reference as 'staycations,'" said Jonathan Litvack, the general manager of the Westin La Paloma.
The Westin La Paloma is just one of the resorts offering discounted rates as low as $99 a night, starting this weekend. All you have to do is ask for the "Summer" offer, or book online here. If sitting poolside is not enough there is also the spa, golf, family activities and live entertainment.
"It makes for a little break from the day to day of staying at home, while not having the added cost of airfare or long travel." Litvack said.
Loews Ventana Canyon is also prepping for a busy weekend. Special rates start at $139 a night, which icludes family events, fireworks and a jazz concert Sunday night.
"They can experience a world class resort for a low rate and still feel like they've gotten away," said Mark Lindsey, director of marketing and sales for the resort.
The Westward Look and Omni are also rolling out some special rates this weekend. Meantime more than two dozen local restaurants are debuting their summer specials, with steals starting at just $20 on Memorial Day. Click here for more information.
