Posted 9:02 AM 8/31/2012 : Local political junkies sound off on Romney's Big Night
TUCSON - News 4 Tucson spent the night with some local Republicans as they watched the final night of the Republican National Convention to get their reaction to Romney's nomination acceptance speech, and what it means for the general election.
Tucsonans are sounding off on what is being pegged as Mitt Romney's most important speech of his political career, setting the stage for the general election faceoff.
As families across the country watched on their couches, so did the Tucson Young Republicans Club.
Senator Marco Rubio set the mood for Romney, who tried to be relatable for the everyday American.
"Well you know, I was kind of worried because sometimes in his speeches he seems a bit wooden, but he was very animated today. You could see the emotion in him, you could see he really wants to serve his country," said Absalom Hall, with the Young Republicans
"I think that he showed a human side and I think that everybody can get behind him and support, and even the Ron Paul people will be there and supportive," said Young Republican Judy Mott.
For these local Republicans, along with exciting the party, they wanted to hear solutions.
"I thought Romney did a really great job tonight, I thought he really shared some specifics - you know that he was going to go on a job tour right away and compared himself with Obama," Mott said.
But for Rodd McLeod, who is the chair of the North Tucson Democratic Club, Romney's speech was lacking specifics.
"As a Democrat, I kind of laughed," McLeod said. "Though he sort of brought up these images of old America and people all happy, everything's great and we all pray and we love our families like this - something that isn't around anymore."
McLeod says that, like a lot of people, he would like to hear a specific plan when it's the Democrats' turn next week.
