TUCSON - A near drowning is one of the scariest events imaginable especially if you're not prepared. What if you don't know CPR?

Kristi's Kids and the News 4 Tucson Lifesavers have been spreading the water safety word since April.

If you can't make it to a CPR class, you can bring the class to you and your neighbors.

"A little boy almost drown in our pool two years ago and I didn't know CPR and the mother didn't know CPR and it was really scary," recalls Becca Ludlum.

Six kids were in the pool that day. Becca was there with the boy's mother.

"Everybody else was ok. We'd talk and then we'd look over and we'd count ‘one, two, three, four, five, six.' We were talking and all of a sudden we'd look and he was underneath the water."

Becca vowed, never again. She took a CPR class and then took things further. Becca wanted everyone she knows to have the chance at certification.

Enter the Save a Life Foundation. They send a firefighter or paramedic from Tucson Fire Department to teach a class. You just need to sign the people up.

"The awareness is there," says Matthew Trujillo, a firefighter with TFD. "People are willing to be here to learn. It doesn't take much more than an hour, hour and a half."

With this critical skill, you might be to save a life. And for those who have a near drowning accident, CPR could help reduce the damage from injuries.

"They're bridging gaps to us," explains Trujillo. "We bridge them to the hospital and if they able to give us a better person then we'll give the hospital a better person."

Becca says she feels empowered after taking a CPR class.

"And I feel if it happened again, it would be just as scary but I'd be able to do something about it."
