TUCSON - The Pima County Health Department continued its mission this week by overseeing the county's restaurants to make them safer for diners. This week, inspectors uncovered a cook who made preparing food a truly hands-on experience, and another restaurant with hot and cold temperatures way off the mark.

Curry Leaf Indian Restaurant, at 2510 E. Grant Road, received 8 critical violations. A cook was observed wiping his nose and face with his bare hands. He continued to handle food, utensils and even a container of insecticide without gloves. Cockroaches were found in kitchen area free roaming and stuck to glue strips. Food was also not properly date marked. With more than 5 critical violations Curry Leaf Indian Restaurant received a provisional rating and will be re-inspected in 10 days.

Holiday Inn, at 4550 S. Palo Verde, received 3 critical violations. Hot holding foods were found to be far under required the 130 degrees with cooked sausage at 100 degrees and cooked potatoes at 96 degrees. Iced items on a cook line were above the required maximum 41 degrees with shell eggs at 70 degrees and diced ham at 51-degrees. Food debris and grease were also observed in several areas of the kitchen. All violations were corrected during the inspection earning Holiday Inn a good rating.

Last week we told you about Ali Baba Restaurant, at 2545 E. Speedway, receiving a provisional rating. the Pima County Health Department has confirmed that the restaurant has passed re-inspection.

Restaurants with excellent ratings this week include, Los Jarritos Mexican Food, at 4832 S. 12th Avenue, Cushing Street Bar & Restaurant, at 198 Cushing Street and Bruegger's Bagels, at 11165 N. La Canada.
