Tucson- It was a good week for eating establishments in Pima County. The vast majority of those evaluated by inspectors scoring "Excellent" ratings. While most kitchens this week continued to meet the high standards of the Pima County Health Department there was a local high school that really bugged one inspector.

Desert View High Culinary Arts School, at 4101 E. Valencia Rd., received one critical violation and one non-critical violation. Evidence of rodents were found throughout the food prep area. Insect droppings were seen inside a deep fryer, on shelves and oven equipment. Exhaust hoods were observed heavily soiled with grease and dust. With the existing rodent problem Desert View High Culinary Arts School received a "Needs Improvement" rating. Kathy Prather, Director of Career & Technical Education for Sunnyside Unified School District, said, "This is a kitchen where students experience all the requirements of a commercial restaurant operation. It has a 16-year record of Excellent ratings, and we are already in the process of addressing these concerns."

Bamboo Terrace Restaurant, at 1754 W. Ajo Way, received three critical and five non critical violations. Dried food debris was observed on a meat slicer. Cooked chicken, shrimp and rice were not properly date marked. Heavy grease and debris buildup was found along the cookline and on shelves. All violations were corrected during the inspection earning Bamboo Terrace Restaurant a "Good" rating. Owner Lenny Mark said, "Food safety is our top priority and that is reflected in the several previous scores of excellent we have received. All violations in this inspection were corrected the same day. We will work harder to regain the mark of excellence.

Restaurants awarded excellent ratings include, Trident Saloon at 2033 E. Speedway, Jason's Deli at 4545 N. Oracle and the Jim Click Café at 6422 E. 22nd Street.
