Posted 1:24 PM 9/26/2012 : Kitchen Cops find restaurant with food on the fly

     Kitchen Cops back in action this week. The Pima County Health Department uncovering a restaurant giving new meaning to "food on the fly" and another needing to pay more attention to keeping the kitchenware clean.

     Applebee's Neighborhood Grill, at 565 E. Wetmore, received 4 critical violations. Excessive amounts of encrusted and moist food debris was found on utensils and cooking pans. An employee was observed washing dirty dishes and then unloading clean dishware without first washing her hands. All violations were corrected during the inspection giving Applebee's a "Good" rating.

     Panda One Chinese Restaurant, at 3670 N. Oracle, received 4 critical violations. Numerous flies were found in the kitchen and hanging fly strips had excessive flies on them. Food items were stored at over the minimum 41-degrees with bean sprouts and noodles testing at over 60-degrees. Several tubs of food were found uncovered in a walk-in cooler. All violations were corrected while the inspector was on site earning Panda One Chinese Restaurant a "Good" rating. Owner Mei Wu said the restaurant is in the process of fixing the refrigeration problem.

      Last week we told you about Guiseppes Ristorante, at 6060 N. Oracle, receiving a "Provisional" rating and Pappoule's, at 4500 N. Oracle, receiving a "Needs Improvement" rating. The Pima County Health Department has confirmed that both restaurants passed re-inspection.

     Restaurants recognized for excellent ratings this week include, Lovin' Spoonfuls, at 2990 N. Campbell, Jamba Juice, at 4500 N. Oracle, and On the Border, at 5205 E. Broadway.
