TUCSON - We're now entering the peak flu season, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. February through April we see more people catching "the bug."
There are some things we can do in the home to try and stay healthy. Simply wiping down common areas where people may be touching can help prevent you from getting sick.
"You touch your face you're spreading germs just by touching those items," says Brandi Nardi with The Maids.
Light switches, phones, remote controls and door knobs are all common places people touch without thinking too much about it.
"If you have someone sick in the home it's definitely important to be cleaning surfaces that everybody's touching with a disinfectant of some sort."
Here's some more tips to keep germs to a minimum:
-Change your vacuum bags monthly.
-Wear gloves to protect yourself.
-Use antibacterial cleaning supplies. Disinfectant needs to stay on for at least 10 minutes to start killing bacteria.
It's obviously a good idea to keep up with the vacuuming and tidying before you start feeling a little under the weather.
"If you keep your home in good condition then when you're ill it's easier to maintain and keep the viruses from spreading."
Another tip, the kitchen and the bathroom are the most used rooms in the home and possibly the most contaminated. Pay special attention to faucets and handles.
