TUCSON-There have been several job fairs in the past few weeks in Tucson.

New retail stores prompted large staffing at Walmart and Curacao.

Monday, prescription company OptumRX held a job fair for 400 job openings they need filled by 2013.

On Tuesday, Convergy's kicks off their job fair, but Arizona struggles with an 8.2% unemployment rate which is higher than the national average.

Allen Cowen has been unemployed since April.

"Money runs out. I've been through all my savings. It's just been really tough," said Cowen.

He hopes a face-to-face meeting will work in his favor.

It's the same reason Sharon Vilard came to the job fair.

"I think on paper it's just--you're just another piece of paper, so I think it's really good and here I am," said Vilard.

"It's been pretty flat for the last couple three years," said Jim Mize with Pima Co. OneStop.

Robert Herbert is now homeless because he hasn't found a job.

"Hmm what's it like? Crazy that's one word that can describe it all," said Herbert.

He comes to Pima County OneStop to search for jobs.

"I've been on several interviews but never had a reply yet," said Herbert.

He's been actively searching since April and isn't ready to give up.

"I believe if I keep keep keep at it, something will prevail. That's what I believe," said Herbert.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of long-term unemployment has changed little at 48 million nationwide.

"It has been hard to find work--any work," said unemployed Adriana Santiago.

Mize said there are more than one thousand jobs available right now in the county, but chances of getting each job is about 10 to one.

"You have to be on top of your game when you're out there because there's an awful lot of people looking for the same job," said Mize.

The OptumRX job fair will continue Tuesday, October 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday November 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the company's University of Arizona Science Technology Park facility.

Convergy's will have a job fair Tuesday, October 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon Way.

November 14 AFNI will have job fairs at all three sites:
