TUCSON - The Monsoon looks to rumble some more this afternoon.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible today, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This is thanks to a combination of high pressure over southern Utah, abundant moisture and daytime highs in the 100's. Storms should develop on the Mogollon Rim and drift southwest into the valley floors after 2 PM.
Today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at a 6 out of 10, meaning a moderate risk of storms producing 40+ MPH wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall over a half-inch. The thunder threat should diminish after 10 PM tonight.
A slight downturn in storm activity is expected for the rest of the week, as drier air works in from the east. Isolated thunderstorms are possible Thursday through the first half of the weekend, with daytime highs at or near 100 degrees.
Storm chances ramp back up early next week. More moisture moves back in, teaming up with an inverted trough to bring scattered storms into the forecast for southern Arizona.
