TUCSON - The heat will be widespread. Monsoon storms will not.
High pressure anchored over southern New Mexico cranks up temperatures the next several days, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Expect highs in the 102-106 range today through Sunday, which is up to 9 degrees above average.
As the heat builds, storm chances fade a little. Isolated storms are possible this afternoon & evening, with a low risk of severe weather. Today's Monsoon Prediction Index is at 3 out of 10 to reflect the slight chance of damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall.
The best chance of Monsoon storms over the next week could be Wednesday, as an inverted trough tracks into southern Arizona. This feature should touch off scattered thunderstorms tomorrow. Storms should stay the isolated variety after Wednesday.
