Posted 8:00 AM 1/8/2013 : Brief warm-up before "The Polar Express" arrives
TUCSON - A short warming trend, then a big-time cold snap.
High pressure over Nevada keeps high temps in the 60's and 70's today through Thursday, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Freezing temps are possible tonight for most of southern Arizona, including the Tucson metro. Areas west of Tucson should stay above the 32 degree mark overnight.
A powerful cold front brings big changes by Thursday, starting with gusty winds up to 30 MPH. Isolated showers are possible Friday, followed by temps 15-20 degrees below average this weekend. Widespread freezing temps look likely during the overnight hours Friday into early next week.
