Posted 8:47 AM 8/6/2012 : Scattered storms, sizzling temps to start the week

TUCSON - Round 2 of storms on tap today.

Ample moisture left over from yesterday (Sunday's rain totals can be found here) and daytime highs in the 100's should lead to scattered thunderstorms, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. A few storms could be capable of microburst winds and locally heavy rainfall, putting our exclusive Monsoon Prediction Index at 5 out of 10 today.

The best chance of scattered storms this afternoon & evening looks to be from an Oracle-Tucson-Nogales line and point west. Areas east of that line should see isolated storms, with all activity subsiding after midnight.

High pressure over New Mexico nudges back over Arizona the remainder of the work week, choking off Monsoon moisture & cranking up temps. Expect isolated storms Tuesday into the weekend with high temps in the 101-105 degree range. The hottest day of the next 7 should be Wednesday.
